Hello!
We are back, after a break and after a busy week! So much has happened and also I will be introducing a new segment: Further Reading (it is stolen from www.ft.com/alphaville), a companion email arriving at your inbox every Thursday evening.
In the Meantime
So I was in Prague. At a wedding! Very cool. I also did all the regular Prague things: drinking beer in Mlynarna (Vinohradska 11*), coffee at xyz espresso bar and a burger in Bistro. I missed out on Baguette Boulevard, because:
a) I was with my parents who prefer more bougie settings and when led to BB my mum exclaimed with disgust "ew... it's some kind of fast food"
b) After spending there 4 hours straight with N. and for her group project in applied macro, I am okay with missing out on that one time.
I did not miss out on drunkenly walking past the Metronom and reminiscing about J.'s quickly-connecting-the-dots moment all those years ago. For those who were there too a reminder - it was 4 years ago.
Anyway. Monday wasn't easy and neither was Tuesday. I gladly left Vienna for London to do everything in my power to avoid the coronation crowd and the more centrally located parts of the capital together. I made beef for N. (she preferred her steak) and met with B. for brunch and a walk. Also: I confused Phoebe Waller-Bridge with Phoebe Bridgers...
J is visiting this weekend... finally! So I will have an update about our ideological differences. Am I a bigger German-hater, despite living there shorter than he did? Maybe. Probably. For sure!
Work: This week was tough. I had to write an op-ed, with at least 5 people wanting to ‘help‘ me it ended up being a farse, especially in its Polish version. Olala! Thankfully my beef with M. came to an end - no more shouting matches! Also, our methane file got voted through the Parliament - time for trilogues! (PS. I love EU regulation)
My absolutely gorgeous (and stressed) girlfriend sends you this meme today:
Me kaikki (uskon) toivomme, että Sanna Marinilla menee hyvin ja hän pysyy vahvana!
Next week:
Get ready for my take on Nevada, a very lefty novel. Its leftieness is really a defining characteristic. I will not write about Eurovision.
